Box 2009 <br /> Stockton, California 92501 <br /> Attention: Ms. Laurie Cottula <br /> MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION PERMIT <br /> PETROLEUM STORAGE AND LING TERMINAL <br /> PORT OF STOCKTON <br /> STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA <br /> Dear Ms. Cottula: <br /> Woodward-Clyde Consultants (WCC)has been retained to assist the Stockton Port District and <br /> lessees of the petroleum storage an handling terminal in conducting an investigation of <br /> um <br /> groundwater quality in the petroleterminal area. This letter is submitted in support of the <br /> enclosed well permit application. <br /> Our investigation involves the installation of seventeen monitoring wells to obtain samples for <br /> laboratory analyses and determine local groundwater flow directions. Monitoring well <br /> installation specifications are discussed below. A site plan indicating the approximate locations <br /> of the proposed monitoring wells and monitoring well construction diagrams are enclosed as <br /> Figures 1,2, and 3. <br /> Installation specifications for the monitoring wells are as follows: <br /> ° The monitoring wells will be constructed of 4-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC <br /> pipe, installed to depths of 30 (16 wells) and 50 (1 well) feet. The screened <br /> interval for the 30-foot wells will be 25-feet in length and a 5-foot length of <br /> blank casing will extend from the top of the screen to the ground surface <br /> (Figure 2). The screened interval for the 50-foot well (MW-12) will be 20-feet <br /> in length and a 30-foot length of blank casing will extend from the screen to the <br /> ground surface (Figure 3). <br /> ° The monitoring wells will be installed with assistance from a licensed (C-57) <br /> drilling company (Kvilhaug Drilling of Concord, California). A drill rig <br /> equipped with 10-inch hollow stem augers will be used to advance the borings. <br /> ° Monitoring well casings will be installed through the augers and a filter pack <br /> will be emplaced through the augers as they are withdrawn. <br /> ° Monitoring wells will lie sealed with a wet bentonite grout to a depth of 1 foot <br /> below grade.
