Project No. 8753009Q-AN02 Woodman t-Clyde Consultants <br /> GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION <br /> PHASE I - HYDROGEOLOGIC SETTING AND <br /> SITE HISTORY <br /> PETROLEUM STORAGE AND HANDLING TERMINAL <br /> PORT OF STOCKTON <br /> BACKGROUND INFORMATION <br /> The petroleum storage and handling terminal serves as a fuel supply <br /> facility for numerous trucking operations and customers of the Stockton <br /> Port District. The terminal area is bounded on the north by W. <br /> Washington Street, to the east by the cogeneration facility construction <br /> site, to the south by a metal recycling operation (Learner Lease Proper- <br /> ty), and to the west by Navy Drive (see Figure 1). Various tenants <br /> i <br /> occupy the service terminals at the petroleum storage and handling facili- <br /> ty. Current tenants include: ARCO, Stockton Petroleum, Time Oil Com- <br /> pany, Tesoro, Southern Pacific Pipelines, ST Services, Union Oil and <br /> Western Pacific (see Figure 2). The types of petroleum hydrocarbons <br /> stored in the terminal area include: leaded and unleaded regular and <br /> premium gasolines, jet fuel, diesel fuel, alcohol, waste oil, and various <br /> proprietary fuel additives. <br /> Preliminary Site Visit <br /> On November 5, 1986, Dr. Jimmie Greenslate (WCC) toured the petroleum <br /> storage and handling terminal at the Port of Stockton (Figure 1). Indica- <br /> tions of surface and subsurface petroleum hydrocarbons at the time of the <br /> site visit included the following: <br /> ° Soils in an area of pooled water approximately 0.5 to 1.0 feet in <br /> depth (located about 1,000 feet south of the intersection of Stork <br /> Road and W. Washington Street) were visibly stained and <br /> odorous (see Figure 2). Product sheen was not observed on the <br /> water surface; <br /> w <br /> i <br /> -1- <br />
