Mr.Brian Taylor•==-- Formatted:Wght
jlangM 31,2008 _ Delated:M:.arianr.ym
r---- Ddebadaenuory 3l,2(p8Q
Access: It is a Shell facility. CRA will obtain work permits from the facility management for both
monitoring well installation and pilot test.
Pamirs. CRA will obtain well installation permits from San Joaquin County Public Environmental
Health Department(EHD).
Site Safety Plan: CRA will prepare a comprehensive site-specific safety plan according to the safety
requirements of the facilityto protect site workers. The plan will be reviewed and signed by facility
management and each site worker. The plan will be kept on the site during field activities.
Safety Planning Field Mir: All personal involved in the monitoring well installations and pilot test will
have a pro-work safety training session with facility management.
Utility Clearance: CRA and/or facility management will mark the proposed drilling locations. The
locations will be cleared using a private utility locating service if required by facility management.
Extraction Well Installation: Assuming the absence of subsurface and overhead obstructions,CRA will
use a drill rig equipped with hollow-stem augers to drill the the five wells wells. The well borings will be
advanced to approximately 30 tbg. Soil samples from the well borings will be collected at 5-foot
intervals for soil description, screening for organic vapors using a photo-ionization detector(PID), and
laboratory analysis. CRA will prepare an exploratory boring log for each well, which will include PID
measurements. -
Unless other information suggests differently, the extraction wells will be constructed using 4-inch
diameter Schedule 40 PVC casing with 0.020-inch circumslot screen. The observations wells will have a
2-inch diameter casing. The well screen intervals will be from approximately 5 to 25 tbg to allow
adequate vadose zone exposure and accommodate'dewatering. A 2/16 sandpack will be placed from the
bottom of the well up to 2 feet.above the top of the well screen followed by a 2-foot thick bentonite seal .
and bentonite-cement grout to grade. Actual well construction details will be based on field conditions
during drilling. The wells will be completed with a three-foot standpipe if located in the secondary
containment area of the facility,or a vault box mounted flush with grade. The wells will be secured with
a locking cap.
Following well installation,Blaine Tech Services, Inc. (Blaine)of San Jose, California will develop the
wells. After well development, Blaine will sample the well and submit the samples to a California-
certified laboratory for chemical analyses.
241729 5
