INTRODUCTION
This report summarizes the field activities performed at 25650 Highway 99
North in Acampo, California (Figure 1) during the recent removal of the
underground storage tanks (UGSTs). Removal and excavation activities were
performed by Golden West Builders of Livermore, California. Touchstone
Developments (TD) was present on-site to observe the UGST removal and soil
stockpiles. The soil sampling and analysis described m this report were
performed August 25, 1993 to comply with the current Tri-Regional Water
Quality Control Board Guidelines.
SITE DESCRIPTION
The site is occupied by a Chevron Service Station and is currently in operation.
Two UGSTs were removed, one 550 gallon waste oil tank located north of the
station building, and one 5 50 gallon heating oil tank located east of the building
(Figure 1).
FIELD EXCAVATION ACTIVITIES
The two UGSTs were removed on August 25, 1993 UGST removal was witnessed
by Enc W. Trevena, Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist from San
Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division, and Greg
Schroder, Deputy Fire Marshal from the San Joaquin County Fire Prevention
Bureau. Also Present was Brett Hunter from Chevron U.S.A.
The tanks were transported and disposed of at Erickson Inc., Richmond, Califor-
nia. Transportation was performed, under manifest, by Erickson Inc.. Approxi-
mately 40-5 0 cubic yards of material was removed and stockpiled on site during
UGST removal and excavation. Both tanks appeared to be in good condition, no
holes were observed in either tank.
SOIL SAMPLING
Soil samples were collected from the back hoe bucket by removing the top few
inches of soil and pushing a clean, six-inch-long (two inches in diameter) brass
sample tube into the soil until completely full. The ends of the tubes were covered
with aluminum foil and sealed with plastic end caps. The samples were then
labeled, placed in a cooler with ice, entered on a Chain-of Custody form and
transported to Superior Precision Analytical, a State-certified laboratory, for
analysis.
Waste Oil Tank Sampling
Soil sample WO-1-9' was collected between 2 and 3 feet beneath the fill end of
the tank at approximately 9 feet below grade (Figure 2).
