Page 2
Heating Oil Tank Sampling
Soil sample D-1-9' was collected between 2 and 3 feet beneath the fill end of the
tank at approximately 9 feet below grade (Figure 2).
Stockpile Sampling
Soil stockpiles generated from the removal were sampled prior to backfilling
Four soil samples were collected from each stockpile(Figure 2). The four samples
were composited in the laboratory and analyzed as one sample. These samples
were collected by removing the top 6 to 12 inches of soil, then pushing a sample
tube into the soil until completely full. The samples were sealed, labeled and
handled as mentioned previously in this report. Following the collection of
samples, a layer of visqueen was placed into each excavation and the soil
stockpiles were used as backfill material in the respective excavations. Compos-
ite soil sample designations are SP-1 A-D for the soils generated from the heating
oil tank removal and SP-2 A-D from stockpiles resulting from the waste oil
removal (Figure 2).
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Summaries of the soil analytical results are presented in Table 1. The heating oil
tank excavation and stockpile samples were analyzed for Petroleum Hydrocar-
bons calculated as Diesel (TPH-Diesel) according to EPA Method 8015 (Modified)
and Benzene,Toluene,Ethylbenzene, and Xylene (BTEX) according to EPA Method
8020. The samples collected in the former waste oil tank excavation and
stockpile included Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons calculated as Gasoline and
Diesel according to EPA Method 8015 (Modified) and Benzene, Toluene,
Ethylbenzene, and Xylene (BTEX) according to EPA Method 8020, Halogenated
Volatile Organics according to EPA SW-846 Methods 5030/ 8010, Senn-Volatile
Organic Priority Pollutants according to EPA Method 8270, Total Oil and Grease
according to EPA Method 55 20 F, and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) according
to EPA Method 8080.
