CIH SERVICES
CALIFORNIA INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE SERVICES INC.
P.O. BOX 667 PINOLE, CA 94564-0667
415.758.5899
■ March 21 1991
MAR 2 8 T91
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
Mr. Charles E. Hunt, REHS
Environmental Health Division
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
P.O. Box 2009
Stockton, California 95201
Dear Mr. Hunt:
I am writing in follow-up to our conversation March
14, at the Catellus Development Corporation property locat-
ed at 4555 South McKinley in Stockton (APN 193-020-21) .
In practice, as a courtesy, I would notify your office
about the March 13 and 14 activities at the site. Unfor-
tunately, working under a tight schedule with other commit-
ments as well as the hazardous materials contractor on
this project, I did not place a call to your office.
As outlined in Mr. Notini's January 9, 1991 letter to
Mr. William Crooks with the California Regional Water Qual-
ity Control Board (copy provided March 14, 1991) , we are
characterizing the extent of the asbestos material that was
placed on the property, allegedly between 1963 and 1968.
The asbestos is composed of broken transite pipes and
dried "sludge."
In addition to characterizing the extent of the mater-
ial, interim measures were put in place to stabilize and
cover exposed areas. We minimized, to the extent feas-
ible, disturbing areas with good vegetative cover. Expos-
ed areas were covered with heavy, U.V. resistant, woven
polypropylene geotextile ground cover secured in place
with heavy sand bags and used auto and truck tires
found on the property.
