A review of well logs in the vicinity of the Sharpe Army Depot, about one-half mile north
of the site, by Environmental Science and Engineering, Inc. (ESE, 1986) indicates discontinuous
sand lenses separated by silt, clay, or sandy clay. Clay and silt predominate in the upper thickness
are found between 120 and 250 feet in the driller's logs. The water bearing units in the area are
considered to be semi-confined due to the presence of the silt and clay lenses. Depth to groundwater
is estimated to be 10 to 15 feet below ground surface. The groundwater flow direction is to the
northwest (Dames & Moore, 1988). In a 1997 investigation at the subject site, however,
groundwater was not encountered in borings advanced to ten feet(GeoEnvironmental, 1997).
I
RAMM98]CM.013 5
j DAMES&MOORE
