Soil Boring Installation for L„eking Water Quality Assessment
May 18, 2005
feet below ground surface). For each sampling location, augering will proceed to five feet above
each sampling depth. The Hydropunch sampling tool will be driven the remaining five feet for
water sample collection, and the sampling tool will be removed from the hole. The auger will
then be advanced five feet and a soil sample will be collected with a split-spoon sampler. The
sampling equipment will be cleaned with trisodium phosphate and deionized water between
sampling events. Each of the two borings will be filled with a cement/5% bentonite mixture
using a tremie pipe after sampling is complete.
The water samples, including a blind field duplicate and a blind field blank, will be collected in
containers provided by the City's laboratory and given to City staff for delivery to the laboratory.
Soil samples will be logged in the field according to the Unified Soil Classification System and
stored in canning jars for future reference.
Attached to this letter are the following forms and documents:
■ signed well permit application for the installation of two soil borings (both located
on the same parcel),
■ check for $368 to cover the permit fee and other application charges,
■ copy of the Licensed Contractors Declaration allowing The Source Group to sign
the permit on behalf of Woodward Drilling,
■ copy of an "MFR” form naming The City of Ripon as responsible for additional
billing,
■ copy of a signed access agreement between The City of Ripon and the property
owner (James Rankin),
■ two maps denoting the location of the soil borings.
If necessary, wet signature copies of these documents can be made available. Please note that
the boring installations are being orchestrated by The City of Ripon to address water quality
issues in the vicinity of drinking water wells. As such, this work does not fall under the
jurisdiction of a regulatory authority for oversight. Therefore, there is no regulatory work plan
approval letter to accompany the well permit applications.
If there are any questions regarding the scope of work being performed or additional information
needed to process the well permit applications, please contact Mr. Matt Machado, City Engineer
for The City of Ripon at 209-599-2108 or Mr. Rob Gailey, Principal Hydrogeologist for The
Source Group at 415-407-8407.
Sincerely,
The Source Group,Inc.
JJonhiliplp
Geologist
The Source Group,Inc.
