Nolte and Associates, Inc. • •MONITORING WELLS
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 MOBILIZATION
The Contractor will move all materials and equipment for well constructing and/or soil sampling
onto and off the site. The site will be restored by the Contractor at the completion of each well,
with sites graded to original contours. No payment will be made for mobilization costs for
equipment brought to the site to replace any equipment which breaks down, performs
unsatisfactorily, or is deemed to be unsuitable for site conditions.
3.02 DRILLING AND LOGGING
A. Drilling
The Contractor will arrange all drill sites to eliminate the possibility of spills and leaks from the
drilling operation entering the borehole. The well holes shall be drilled using direct rota
drilling techniques to a depth of approximately-70_feet. The well hdii_shall be approximately
12-inch diameter to allow for adequate space for the gravel pack and protective casing.
B. Lagging
A well log shall be kept by the Contractor to record the course of actual drilling; the general
character, type, and depths of materials penetrated; and any pertinent observations on the depths
of water-bearing horizons or other data, such as caving, that may assist in the interpretation of
the subsurface geology. As part of the log, the Contractor shall accurately determine the depth
from which cuttings and fluid samples are being taken for analysis.
A sketch of the well installation will be included on the log and will show, by depth, the bottom
of the boring, screen location, coupling location, granular backfill, seals, grout, cave-in, and
height of riser above ground surface. The actual composition of the grout, seals, and granular
backfill will be recorded on each sketch. Well log sketches will include the protective casing
detail, details on the size and type of screen used, and centralizer design.
Any variation in the amount of bentonite or water required to be added during drilling shall also
be recorded. The depths at which such changes are required shall be shown in the well log.
C. Formation Samples
The Contractor shall be responsible for collecting and preserving all formation samples, and for
recording all sample information.
The Contractor shall take a large(at least 1 qt), washed, representative sarn f-the material at
the interval to a screened, and shall label and preserve each sample in_ a widemouthed pint jar
with a metal lid. Jars and lids shall be furnished by the Contractor. Sam shall be submitted to
the lab by the Contra or for sieve analysis. ontrac or is responsible for the cost of the analysis.
5
