'
File No 20-3941-01 E01 kTj KLEINFELDER
April 2, 1997
' The soil borings were closed in accordance with the protocol described in Attachment B Soil
cuttings generated while drilling were placed in 55-gallon drums and stored on site pending
chemical analysts and proper disposal by the City of Escalon
Ten to eleven soil samples were collected from each boring Five soil samples from each boring
location were submitted for analysts The samples were selected based upon field observations,
' qualitative field screening results, and the depth in the boring None of the samples collected
were noted with any unusual odor or discoloration No elevated readings were noted from a photo
toruzation detector (PID) used to detect hydrocarbons by measuring parts per million by volume
' of vapor
' The five selected soil samples from each boring were collected at depths of 15, 25, 40, 45, and 50-
feet bsg The samples were submitted for analysts for the presence and concentration of Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to diesel (TPH-D), Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
' referenced to gasoline (TPH-G), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX),
MTBE, and Total Lead
' 4.2.1 Sample Handling
Each of the soil samples selected for quantitative analysts were submitted under chain-of-
custody control to Sequoia Analytical Laboratories (Sequoia) of Sacramento, Califorrua
Sequoia is certified by the California Department of Toxic Substances to perform the requested
analyses
4.2.2 Qualitative Field Screening
' provide a qualitative indication of the presence of volatile organic constituents in the soil and
To pro td q p g
to monitor the constituent concentrations in the breathing zone, a portable organic vapor analyzer
was used to screen the samples to the field A Photovac MicroTip0 photo-tomzatton detector
(PID) was used to measure total ionizable compounds in parts per million by volume (ppmv) of
' vapor
Soil samples obtained were screened in the field, and the PID readings were recorded on the
' boring logs PID readings from the three borings ranged from 0 to 4 ppmv These later
concentrations appear to be consistent with background levels
' For the protection of the field crew, the PID was also used to measure the total ionizable
concentration to the breathing zone prior to and while drilling the borings No consistent readings
were noted in the breathing zone above 1 ppmv
10-3941-01 E011201IR005 Page 7 of 11 01997 Klesnfelder Inc
