Permitting and Access
Prior to drilling, all of the necessary permits will be obtained from the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (SJEHD). Required permits will include boring (well)
permits for the installation of exploratory borings and groundwater wells.
Pre-Field Meeting
A pre-field meeting will be conducted in the field between staff and the field subcontractors
prior to initiating the field activities for each work day. During the meeting, staff will
confirm the work to be performed, identify potential hazards to the field staff, describe the
health and safety measures that will be implemented, and the anticipated project schedule.
INVESTIGATION ACTIVITIES
The Sampling Matrix is presented on Table 2 of the Work Plan and includes a summary of
samples to be collected and analytical methods for each proposed sample location. Field
activities will be conducted under the supervision of a California Professional Geologist or
Professional Engineer to provide direction and oversight of the field activities and to ensure
that the field activities follow appropriate quality control and applicable regulatory
guidelines. If additional sampling activities are deemed necessary beyond the scope of
work proposed herein, they will be conducted in accordance with the methods and
procedures described this Work Plan.
Soil Borings
One borehole will be installed utilizing sonic drilling techniques to facilitate the collection
of depth discrete soil and hydropunch groundwater samples at the location shown on
Figures 3 attached. Sonic drilling technology utilizes telescopic casing advancement to
isolate the desired sampling interval to reduce the risk of vertical cross-contamination
during installation and sampling activities, Additionally, sonic allows for the collection of
a continuous core of the boring.
The exploratory boring will be converted into a groundwater monitoring well. The
exploratory boring locations A2 will be advanced to the bottom of the B-zone aquifer, or a
maximum of 140 feet bgs, to collect lithologic data and soil and groundwater chemistry
data. Boring installation activities will be completed in accordance with SOP 1.0
(Appendix B)of the Work Plan.
Once complete, the exploratory boring will be converted into a B-Zone well as discussed
below in the Work Plan. All borings to be converted into monitoring wells shall have a
final diameter equal to the outer diameter of the well casing plus 2-inches on each side.
Well construction details are provided in the Work Plan.
Access Agm=mt 2010 S
