Levine-Fricke-Recon • '
Section: 6
Date Initiated:September 23, 1996 ,
Revision No.: 1
Date Revised:August 21, 1998
6.5.4 Personal Decontamination During Medical Emergencies ,
In the event of personal injury, first aid personnel must decide if the victim's injuries '
are potentially the type that would be aggravated by movement. If there is any doubt,
or if the victim is unconscious and cannot respond, no attempt should be made to move '
the victim to the decontamination area unless there is another hazard that presents an
imminent danger to the victim.
If paramedics approve, the victim's PPE will be cut off in the Contamination '
Reduction Zone. If the decision is made not to remove the victim's PPE, he/she will be
wrapped in an isolating barrier to protect the ambulance and crew during transport. '
The paramedics or emergency transport team will be notified of the chemical hazards
present at the Site so that they can take suitable precautions and inform the awaiting
medical team. If the victim is contaminated with material that threatens to cause '
additional injury or immediate health hazards, the PPE will be carefully removed and
the victim washed appropriately. In all instances, health considerations of an injured
worker will take precedence over decontamination procedures.
6.6 Site Security
Access inside the specified work area will be limited to authorized personnel. Only '
LFR employees and designated LFR subcontracted personnel, as well as LPL and its
designated agents, will be admitted to established work zones. Only persons possessing '
evidence of the required current hazardous waste operations training and physician's
authorization to conduct hazardous waste activities will be permitted in the designated
Exclusion Zones. '
At a minimum, all visitors entering the work area must wear the protective clothing
and equipment required for LFR personnel. Permission to enter the work area must be '
obtained from at least one of the personnel named in Section 4 of this HSP. All
personnel entering controlled areas of the Site will sign the signature page of this HSP,
indicating they have read, and accept, the health and safety practices outlined in this t
HSP.
6.7 Waste Management Procedures ,
Soil and groundwater sample results will be evaluated to assess the appropriate waste '
management method for investigation-derived soils and groundwater that are suspected
of being contaminated. Disposable equipment and PPE will be placed in appropriate
containers and analyzed, as necessary, to determine appropriate disposal procedures. '
For more information, please refer to the Investigation Derived Residuals Management
Plan (Appendix E to the RI/FS Work Plan).
Page F-20 RIFSWP-AppF-Rev 1-0411 I:SRL '
