Spill containment and clean up <br /> measures listed below are examples of responses to spills. <br /> • Upright or rotate containers to stop the flow of liquids. This step may be <br /> accomplished as soon as the spill or leak occurs, providing it is safe to do so. <br /> • Sorbent pads, booms, or adjacent soil may be used to dike or berm materials, <br /> subject to flow, and to solidify liquids. <br /> Sorbent pads, soil, or booms, if used, shall be placed in appropriate containers <br /> after use, pending disposal. <br /> Contaminated tools and equipment shall be collected for subsequent cleaning or <br /> disposal. <br /> 9.8 Evacuation <br /> The SSO shall designate evacuation routes and refuge areas to be used in the event of <br /> an emergency. Site personnel shall stay upwind of vapors or smoke and upgradient of <br /> spills. If workers are in an Exclusion or Decontamination Reduction Zone at the start <br /> of an emergency, they should exit through the established decontamination areas <br /> ' whenever possible. If evacuation cannot be done through an established <br /> decontamination area, site personnel shall go to the nearest safe location and remove <br /> contaminated clothing there or, if possible, leave it near the Exclusion Zone. <br /> All personnel shall assemble at the predetermined refuge following evacuation and <br /> decontamination. The SSO, or designated representative, shall count and identify <br /> personnel to ensure that all have been evacuated safely. <br /> If an incident poses an immediate threat to the health and safety of the occupants and <br /> visitors of the shopping center or the surrounding community, the public will be <br /> informed and possibly evacuated from the area. Such notification and possible <br /> evacuation will be coordinated through the local fire and law enforcement agencies. <br /> Where possible, the Site Project Manager, Director of Health and Safety, and <br /> designated LPL representative will be notified before initiation of evacuation <br /> procedures. <br /> 1 <br /> 1 <br /> ' RIFSWP-AppF-Rev1-0411I:SRL Page F-27 <br />
