• Section 10-1 shstruction Details
Standard Specifications Section 14 Special
Page 5 of 7
14-2 . 0 SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR WELL DESTRUCTION
14-2 . 1 WELL PREPARATION
Each well shall be cleaned to remove any undesirable material .
The screened intervals of the wells shall be swabbed to ensure that
they are open and will accept grout, and any material brought into
the wells by swabbing shall be bailed. In addition to the normal
swabbing and bailing required to clear the perforations, Well LVMD2
and Well LVMD6 will require additional preparation work.
Well LVMD2 will require additional bailing or jetting through
the caved interval from 100 to 160 feet below ground surface (bgs) .
The intention of this bailing is to clear the well down to the
aquitard at that level. The Contractor shall make all reasonable
efforts to bail to this depth. Should field conditions preclude
the completion of this work, then a revised work plan will be
prepared by the Engineer and performed by the Contractor. This
work will be paid for as extra work in accordance with Section
4-1. 03D, "Extra Work" , of the Standard Specifications.
Well LVMD6 shall have its 8-inch diameter PVC liner casing
removed. The Contractor shall also remove the gravel pack between
the liner and the 14-inch diameter steel casing. The intention of
this work is to provide access to the outer casing and allow
perforation operations to be performed. After removal of the
casing and the gravel pack, the well shall be swabbed and bailed to
clear the perforations.
The contract price paid for well preparation shall include
full compensation for furnishing all labor, materials, tools,
equipment and incidentals, and for doing all the work involved in
preparation of wells for destruction. Work includes swabbing and
bailing. Costs for decontamination, waste containment and sampling
are included in Section 14 . 1.4.
14-2.2 PERFORATION
Blank casing below the sanitary seals of each well shall be
perforated or ripped using equipment suitable for the size and type
of casing materials at each well. Minimum equipment shall consist
of either: (1) a "star" or "wheel" perforator capable of generating
vertical perforations approximately 3/16-inch by 3/4-inch spaced
approximately 2 inches apart; or (2) Mills knife, capable of
creating a 1/4-inch wide linear perforation.
At the Contractor's option, Well LVMD1 may be perforated using
an explosive shot type perforator. The perforator shall be
repositioned such that subsequent shots produce a uniform vertical
distribution of perforations.
Specific perforation specifications unique to each well are
described below. All casings (including double casings) shall be
6691ISPECSI4EMON.14
