Plate 1
presents an area map.
SIZE BACKGROUND
RL-A's summary of the site background is based on information provided in Levine-Fricke's(LF)
report dated November 9, 1989, on the removal of one underground storage tank at the site.
Lone 10,000-gallon underground storage tank,product line and:dispenser was rreemcved from the site ;
on SeptembeY8-through 21, 1989. The tank had been used most recently:for diesel storage but had
been used previously for gasoline storage. The tank was approximately 10 feet east of the loading dock
area and about 100 feet north of the store building. Plate 2 presents a site map. The tank had been
covered by approximately 3 feet of sand backfill and asphalt pavement.
BMs. Kasey Foley;?Environmental Health Specialist with the San Joaquin Local Health District, and
Mr. Rodney Ezell, from the Stockton Fire Department were onsite to observe tank removal and soil
excavation/sampling activities.
Approximately 250 gallons of residual fluid was pumped from the.tank into a vacuum truck and
transported for disposal to H and H Ship Service Company(H&H)by California Oil Recyclers, Inc., of
Newark, California. The tank was then rendered inert by inserting approximately 190 pounds of dry
ice to displace gasoline vapors and oxygen. The tank was removed after explosivity meter readings in
the tank, taken at least i hour after the dry ice was inserted, indicated that vapor concentrations were
below 20 percent of the lower explosive limit.
Engineering and 7655 Redwood Boulevard, PO.
