Sites that are able
groundwater has been impacted stay within this program and remediate any soito verify that no
ls that have been documented as
contaminated and not permitted to remain in place.
Sites such as yours that have substantial levels of contamination in the soils that may have impacted groundwater
should expand their investigation to verify the vertical extent of the soil contamination and the groundwater
status.
After conferring with the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB), it was concluded
that additional work is required onsite in order to verify additional concerns.
Chlordane, 4,4-DDT, Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel and as Oil and Grease have been detected from a
previous RESNA investigation in shallow soil from borings B4, BI, B3, and B2.
The maximum level of Chlordane and 4,4-DDT in soil allowed to be left in place is 0.03 mg/kg. No more than
100 mg/kg of Diesel may be left in place unremediated. Please ensure that any future laboratory analyses utilize
detection limits that will verify if these levels of contaminants are present.
A soil boring/punch should be placed at boring B4's location and extended downward to the current groundwater
depth. Soil samples should be collected at five (5) foot intervals starting at 5 feet below ground surface and
continuing into the saturated zone. A groundwater sample should be collected after reaching total depth.
All samples should be analyzed for Pesticides (EPA 8080/608), Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel (TPH-D
by EPA 80I5m/3510), and Oil and Grease (O&G by 418.1-IR 5520 B/E,F,C).
Chlordane and 4,4-DDT have a cancer level of 0.1 ug/l maximum for groundwater samples and detection limits
utilized in laboratory analyses should provide for this concentration level, TPH-D and O&G should utilize a 50
ug/l detection limit.
All soils that exceed 0.03 mg/kg for Chlordane and 4,4-DDT must be remediated and PHS-EHD recommends
removal of this soil and confirmation sampling at the sidewalls to verify the levels of any residual material.
i
{ A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
