15 July 2004
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0540
Page 2 of 10
2.2. PREVIOUS SITE ASSESSMENT
On 25 January 1999, AGE advanced two soil probings at the site. Probe boring PI was advanced
within the former UST excavation to a depth of 50 feet below surface grade (bsg). Probe boring P2
was advanced immediately adjacent to the former waste oil USTs. Samples were collected at five-
foot intervals in each probe boring. Low concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons were detected
in soil samples collected from P 1 at depths of 35, 40 and 50 feet bsg.
On 25 and 26 February 1999 and on 01,02, 03,and 05 March 1999,AGE advanced five borings to
approximately 80 feet bsg. Three of the five borings were completed as groundwater monitoring
wells. Hydrocarbon-impacted soil was reported in samples collected from three of the five borings.
Analytical results of soil samples collected from the site are summarized in Table 1.
Borings B 1,B3 and B5 were completed as ground water monitoring wells MW-1,MW-2 and MW-3,
respectively.Between March 1999 and March 2004,ground water samples have been collected from
each monitoring well on eleven occasions. Hydrocarbon-impacted ground water has been
consistently reported in samples collected from wells MW-1 and MW-3.
The on-site domestic well, as well as domestic wells from surrounding properties, have been
sampled as part of regular quarterly monitoring.No impact to any of the sampled domestic wells has
been confirmed. Analytical results of ground water samples are summarized in Table 2.
2.3. GROUND WATER DEPTH AND FLOW DIRECTION
Based upon data collected from the existing on-site monitoring wells,ground water depth at the site
is approximately 75 feet bsg. Ground water flow direction has been consistently southeast. Details
of ground water monitoring events are included in previous AGE-prepared Quarterly Reports.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
To assess the vertical extent of hydrocarbon-impacted ground water on the site, completion of the
following tasks is required:
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• CPT drilling and sample collection;
• Laboratory analysis of samples;
• Advancement of soil borings and completion as ground water monitoring wells;
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
