Stantec
Site History and Previous Investigations
Former ARCO Service Station No. 595
May 18, 2009
Mechanical, Inc. of San Leandro, California. Soil samples were collected from the UST,
dispenser island, and piping excavations for analysis. Hydrocarbon staining and a gasoline odor
were noticed in the southwest corner of the UST excavation in the vicinity of soil sample PB-3.
Additional over-excavation was performed in this location. Nine composite samples were also
collected from the approximately 57 cubic yards of over-excavated materials. Soil samples from
the tank excavation (PB-3), line samples (LS-1 and LS-2, dispensers (DI-1 and DI-4), and
stockpiled soil from the vicinity of PB-3 had detections of gasoline range organics (GRO),
ranging up to 2,200 mg/kg. Toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes were also detected in the
same samples. TBA was detected in sample DI-3 at a concentration of 0.039 mg/kg. The
removed USTs and product piping were transported to Norcal Waste System's Pacheco Pass
Landfill in Gilroy, California. Excavated soils were disposed of at Forward Landfill in Manteca,
California.
595 Site History and Previous Investigations.doc 3
