31 March 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 00-0699
Page 4 of 9
through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially, AGE proposes to advance three soil borings in the vicinity of the former USTs and
dispenser islands to assess the lateral and vertical extent of the petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil.
and/or ground water. One boring will be advanced between the former UST area and the on-site
domestic well; a second boring will be advanced near the former western dispenser island; and a
third boring will be advanced east of the eastern dispenser island.The proposed boring locations are
illustrated on Figure 2.
The proposed boring locations may be modified due to field observations or additional borings may
be advanced with approval by the PHS-EHD. Since ground water contamination was encountered
during the Espana investigation,each proposed boring will be advanced to ground water,anticipated
to be at a depth of approximately 60 feet bsg.
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals beginning at approximately 5 feet bsg and
extending to the total boring depths.Field procedures for advancement of borings and collection of
soil samples are presented in Section 4.1.
Selected soil samples from each boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis with concurrence
of the PHS-EHD. The selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of
Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• TPH-g and TPH-d by EPA Method 8015 Modified;
• Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes (BTEX)by EPA Method 8020;
• Fuel oxygenates including methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE),tertiary-butyl alcohol(TBA),
di-isopropyl ether(RIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE) and tertiary-amyl methyl ether
(TAME)by EPA Method 8260 Modified;
• 1,2-Dichloroethane(1,2-DCA) and ethylene dibromide(EDB)by EPA 8260 Modified; and
• Total lead by EPA Method 6010
Laboratory reports for soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain-of-custody documentation will be presented in a report with
findings and recommendations.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,.Inc.
