31 March 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 00-069.9 _
Page 5 of 9
3.3. GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
During the soil assessment activities,one."grab"ground water sample will be collected from selected
borings and will be submitted for laboratory analysis. Ground water sample collection procedures
are presented in Section 4.2. Ground water samples will be analyzed by a DHS-certified laboratory
for:
• TPH-g and TPH-d by EPA Method 8015 Modified;
• BTEX by EPA Method 8020;
• Fuel oxygenates, 1,2-DCA and EDB, by EPA Method 8260 Modified; and
• Total lead by EPA Method 6010
The laboratory report for the ground water analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality
assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports, and sample chain-of-custody documentation will be
presented in a report with the findings and recommendations.
3.4. MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION AND.SAMPLING
If the results of the initial soil and ground.water assessment activities indicate significant petroleum
hydrocarbon.impaction to ground water, the three borings may be completed as ground water
monitoring wells. The monitoring wells will provide repeatable sampling points for monitoring of
petroleum hydrocarbon impacted groundwater and allow determination of site-specific ground water
flow direction.
3.4.1. Monitoring Well Installation and Development
Following advancement of borings,two-inch diameter monitoring wells will be installed in each of
the borings. Ground water monitoring wells will consist of 20 feet of well screen section. The well
screen section will be installed across the observed water table level with approximately five feet of
screen section extending above the water level and 15 feet of screen section extending below the
water table level. Based on ground water table level, it is anticipated that the total depth of the
monitoring wells will be approximately 70 feet bsg.
Following well installation, the wells will be developed in order to maximize water flow into the
well and minimize the amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the well during sampling
activities. Field procedures for monitoring well installation and development are presented in
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc.
