Groundwater Sampling anAnalysis Plan U
Former Texaco Service Station
Chevron Site ID 309075
: January 14, 2011
4.0 MONITORING AND SAMPLING STANDARD PROCEDURES
The following sections describe procedures for the measurement and collection of groundwater
samples for chemical analysis. Samples will be collected as described in Gettler-Ryan, Inc's
(G-R) [Chevron's monitoring and sampling contractor]) standard operating procedures (SOP).
4.1 DEPTH TO GROUNDWATER MEASUREMENTS
Prior to purging and groundwater sampling, the depth to groundwater at all the monitoring wells
will be measured. Measurements to groundwater in all the monitoring wells will be collected
using an electric water level sounder. Appropriate decontamination procedures will be used
during the collection of depth to groundwater measurements. The depth to groundwater
measurements will be collected in accordance with the G-R groundwater monitoring and
sampling SOP provided in Attachment B.
4.2 GROUNDWATER SAMPLE COLLECTION METHODOLOGY
Groundwater samples will be collected in accordance with California Environmental Protection
Agency (CaIEPA) procedures outlined in Representative Sampling of Groundwater for
Hazardous Substances' and in accordance with the G-R groundwater monitoring and sampling
SOP. Field parameters will be monitored prior to sampling using a multi-parameter meter
equipped with appropriate electrodes/sensors. Prior to use, field instruments will be calibrated in
w
accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. The pH, specific conductance,
temperature, DO and ORP will be monitored during groundwater sample collection. A stack
pump or disposable bailer will be used for purging. Samples will be collected with disposable
bailers.
4.3 GROUNDWATER SAMPLE CONTAINERIZATION/HANDLING
Sample containers will be provided by the contract laboratory and will be pre-cleaned and
treated according to USEPA specifications for the specified test methods. Containers will be
stored in dry, clean areas to prevent exposure to fuels, solvents, and other contaminants.
Sample containers, preservation methods, holding times, chemical parameters and test
methods for groundwater samples to be followed are presented in Table 4.
w
' California Environmental Protection Agency Department of Toxic Substances Control.2008.
Representative Sampling of Groundwater for Hazardous Substances(July 1995, revised February 2008).
California: February 2008.
w
\\CA5FP\Data\Aproject\ENV\CHEVRON\309075\6 Deliverables\Work Plan\SAP\309075_SAP_6671110950.doc 5
