27 January 2006
AGE-NC Project No. 02-0913
allowing the pump to run for 5 minutes. The domestic well sample was transferred directly into VOA
vials from a sampling tap mounted between the well pump and holding tank. After collection, the
`r samples were properly labeled,placed in a chilled container,and transported under chain-of-custody
to CTEL for analysis. The samples were analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Methods 8015M;
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes(BTEX)in accordance with EPA Method
8260B; and
• Fuel additives di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),ethyl tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE),methyl tertiary-
butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA),
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and ethylene dibromide (EDB) in accordance with EPA
Method 8260B.
3.4. BORING ABANDONMENT
Soil probe borings were abandoned by backfilling with portland type I/II neat cement from the total
depth of the boring to surface grade.
... 4.0. FINDINGS
A discussion of field and laboratory results of soil and ground water samples collected during soil
probe borings is detailed below.
4.1. SHALLOW SUBSURFACE SOIL PROFILE
Tan-brown silty clays were encountered through each soil boring to 20 feet to 25 feet bsg.
Orange-brown silty clays were encountered to approximately 45 feet bsg in each boring.
Olive-brown silty clays extended to 55 feet bsg in boring B 1 and to 60 feet bso in boring B2. From
60 feet to 70 feet bsg sandy silts with very fine, poorly graded sands less than 10%were encountered.
`r In boring B2,tan-brown,olive-brown,and reddish-brown silty clays extended from 60 feet to 80 feet
bsg. Overall, silty clays were marked by medium to very plasticity and medium toughness in the
upper 40 feet of each boring and low to medium plasticity and toughness in the lower 36 to 40 feet
of each boring. No petroleum hydrocarbon odor and no detections above background levels using
the OVM were noted for soil samples collected from the soil probe borings.Boring logs are included
r„ as Appendix B.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
r
