(AGE)and has the following comments.
The Report documents a site investigation that was completed at your site in November 2005.
Two soil borings were advanced by hollow stem auger to collect soil and grab groundwater
samples. Analytical results from these samples indicate the groundwater beneath this site is
impacted with 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA). There were a few minor detections of benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes in the soil. The Report makes several recommendations for
further fieldwork to both confirm the results and investigate the source of the 1,2-DCA.
A Phase II Environmental Site Assessment was conducted at this site in March 2002,focusing on
the areas of the former underground storage tanks and dispenser islands. Four shallow soil
borings were advanced, the deepest one to 40 feet below surface grade (bsg). The deepest
boring, P-3, encountered petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in soil to total depth of 40 feet
bsg. However, none of the soil samples were analyzed for 1,2-DCA, and no groundwater
samples were collected for analysis. SJC/EHD recommends further investigation of this area.
Soil samples should be collected for vertical definition of the plume, laboratory analysis should
include 1,2-DCA, and groundwater samples should be collected, either from a hydropunch or
from an installed monitoring well. SJC/EHD also recommends that you research prior ownership
records of the site, and contact Texaco as a potential responsible party to this site who is likely to
be eligible for the State Water Resources Control Board Cleanup Fund.
Please proceed with submittal of a work plan to continue the investigation of the vertical and
lateral definition of the documented contamination at this site. The work plan is due for submittal
no later than June 2, 2006. If you have any questions please call Lori Duncan at(209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Nuel C.
