IV. ANALYSIS AND RESULTS
A. Specifications
All samples were handled and analyzed in accordance with EPA methods as noted on the
laboratory documentation.
V. FINDINGS
A. General
All reported chemicals, equipment and by-products of the clandestine activities were
removed by law enforcement prior to the'site inspection. Laboratory analysis of the
submitted samples indicated the presence of Methamphetamine (via method HPLC-UV by
USP # 24) as well the precursor Naphthalene (via EPA method 8260B) in the surface
wipe samples collected.
B. pH
Samples were analyzed for pH to assess acid and alkaline contamination associated with
the use of corrosive chemicals. The pH scale is a logarithmic scale, ranging from 0 to 14,
used to characterize corrosivity. A pH value less than 7 suggests an acidic material,
whereas a pH greater than 7 is indicative to caustic (basic) materials. The sample result
was 8.01. The sample results appear to be only slightly caustic.
C. Phosphorous
3
Phosphorous has an established exposure limit of 0.1 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/M)
of air. Along with iodide, it is capable of producing eye, skin, nose and respiratory tract
irritation along with chest tightness, headaches, stomach pain, birth defects, jaundice and
kidney damage. The recognized target organs are eyes, skin, respiratory system, central
nervous system, liver, kidneys, blood and cardiovascular system. No Phosphorus was
identified in the sample'collected.
C. Iodide
Iodide has an established exposure limit of 0.1 parts per million (ppm) in air. Iodide is
capable of producing eye, skin, nose and respiratory tract irritation. It may also produce
jaundice and kidney
damage. The
chest tightness, headaches, stomach pail, birth defects,,l
recognized target organs are eyes, skin, respiratory system, central nervous system, liver,
kidneys, blood and cardiovascular system. No Iodide was identified in the sample
collected.
ESS Project 2003712-1
Page 4:
