ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT, INC.
1000-A ORTEGA WAY PLACENTIA, CA 92870-7162
714/632-8521 FAX: 714/632-6754
CA
October 30, 2000 -
EAI Project No. 1232
Mr. Gordon Lee Boggs
California Regional Water Quality Control Board
Central Coast Region
3443 Routier Road, Suite A
Sacramento, CA 95827-3003
SUBJECT: RESPONSE TO RWQCB LETTER DATED OCTOBER 27, 2000
Cleanup and Abatement Order No. 5-00-707
Montgomery Ward Auto Service Center and
Former Unocal Site
5400 and 5600 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Boggs:
This letter is being written to confirm the planned course of action that we discussed by
telephone on October 27, 2000, regarding the California Regional Water Quality Control
Board, Central Valley Region (RWQCB) letter dated October 27, 2000, for the above-
referenced matter(a copy of the RWQCB letter is attached).
As discussed, the six 150-foot CPT borings proposed for around the RIW will procee as
outlined in the Environmental Audit, Inc. (EAI) report entitled "Supplemental Investigation
Report, Problem Assessment Report and Work Plan, Cleanup and Abatement Order No. 5-00-
707, Montgomery Ward Auto Service Center and Former Unocal Site, 5400 and 5600 Pacific
Avenue, Stockton, California," dated October 13, 2000. Data from this investigation should
define the vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in ground water around the RIW. nce
the vertical extent of ground water impacted around the RIW is determined, these data can be
used to determine the depths for selectively slotted nested wells on the Wards and Unocal sites,
to be used to determine the vertical extent of impact beneath these two sites. The vertical
extent of ground water impacted below the Wards and Unocal sites can not be deeper than the
RIW impact. Therefore, it may not be necessary to advance CPT borings on the Wards and
Unocal sites.
As discussed, we are working to schedule the CPT borings around the RIW for Novembei 13,
14 and 15, 2000, along with starting the 400-foot testing boring work for replacement o the
RIW on November 13, 2000. The test boring work will take the entire week on Novembe 13
to complete.
PLANNING,ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSES AND
HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES MANAGEMENT AND REMEDIATION
J
