(EAI)
performed field measurements and ground water and soil vapor sampling associated with the
above-referenced matter on August 27, 2001. From July 19, 2001, to August 24, 2001, the
remediation system was operated in the biosparging cycling mode, i.e. only the air sparging
compressor was running using a three day online and four day offline cycle. The system was
shut down on August 24, 2001, prior to completing the field activities described below on
August 27, 2001:
• Gauging monitoring wells MW-2, MW-3, and MW-4.
• Obtaining non-purge ground water samples from wells MW-2, MW-3, and MW-4.
• Starting the air sparging compressor and taking readings from vapor extraction wells
when the compressor was running.
• Starting the thermal oxidizer and taking a soil vapor and combustion gases samples.
Depth to Ground Water
The depth to ground water in wells MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4 was 34.67 feet below ground
surface (bgs), 34.05 feet bgs, and 34.50 bgs, respectively, which was approximately three feet
lower than the measurements taken on May 30, 2001 (see Table 1).
Ground Water Sampling
Non-purge ground water samples were obtained from wells MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4 using a
point source bailer dropped to a depth of 50 feet bgs. The samples were analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH) by modified EPA Method 8015, and benzene,
