 ♦ s
EMIR,
Mr. James Barton
March 31, 2005
Page 2
converted sparge wells will be in the lower aquifer zone (zone C) identified in previous reports
at approximately 86 to 91 feet below ground surface (bgs). The locations of the proposed air
sparge well (AS-33) and the existing monitoring well (MW-23S) are illustrated on Figure 2.
Figure 3 shows the locations of future work and the existing and proposed conveyance piping.
Air sparge well AS-33 will be advanced using a truck-mounted drill rig employing 10-inch
diameter hollow stem augers. The well will be drilled to an approximate depth of 91 feet bgs.
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals to the total depth drilled using a split spoon
sampler. Soil samples collected will be field screened for the presence of volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) using a photoionization detector (PID). Soil samples will also be logged
according to visual and manual methods. PID readings, soil descriptions, and other pertinent
drilling information will be recorded on the boring logs. Soil samples for chemical analyses will
be collected in brass liners, capped with teflon tape and plastic end caps, and then placed in
re-sealable plastic bags. The brass liners will then be stored in iced coolers and transported to
a state-certified laboratory under chain-of-custody documentation.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed for TPHg using EPA Method 8015M, BTEX, MTBE,
EDB, and 1,2-DCA using EPA Method 8260B. Samples will be selected for laboratory analysis
based on PID readings, sample depth, and soil lithologic data. A minimum of one soil sample
from the boring will be submitted for chemical analysis. Field methods and procedures to be
used by ENSR during drilling and installation of the proposed well are summarized in
Attachment B.
The air sparge well will be constructed using 2-inch diameter, flush-threaded, Schedule 40 PVC
casing. The casing will be installed to a total depth of approximately 91 feet bgs. The air
sparge well will be screened from 85 to 90 feet bgs. Final screened intervals will be based on
field observations. The annular space will be filled with No. 3 Lonestar—or equivalent—sand
(filter pack) from two feet above the top of the well screen to the maximum depth of the well. A
minimum 2-feet thick bentonite seal will be placed on top of the filter pack. Above the bentonite
seal the annular space will be sealed with neat cement grout. Proposed well construction
details are presented in Attachment C.
Spari Well Connection
Conveyance line installation includes trenching, bedding, piping installation, connection to the
wells, backfilling, and compaction. The trenches shall be approximately 1-foot deep by 1-foot
J:1PmjectsT694015098-2931WorkinglReports15098 Work Plan 2AS wells.doc
`' Celebrating 35 Years of Excellence in Environmental Services
