Each worker':; hands and face will be thoroughly washed and protective clothing removed prior to initiating any hand-to-mouth activity. 4.3 Absorption Hazard Skin contact with contaminated waste materials (soil and/or ground water) may result in localized irritation, systemic illness and/or skin lesions at the point of contact. For this reason, skin contact with drilling soils, development and purge water, decontamination fluids, etc. , will be avoided by the use of protective gloves and safety glasses/goggles. Protective gloves and safety glasses/goggles are required in areas where waste materials are handled. 4.4 Noise Hazard Hearing protection (ear inserts and/or ear muffs) will be worn by workers exposed to noise equal to or greater than 85 decibels, (dBA) . The hearing protection will be capable of reducing noise levels to no more than 85 dBA. Drilling operations are expected to exceed this noise level. 4.5 Head Hazard All EAI and subcontractor person- tl will wear hard hats at all times within the Exclusion Zone. 4.6 Physical Hazard. Physical hazerds such as heat stress and/or other types of injury (e.g. , back) due to heavy lifting are possible during field activities. Heat stress can increase the magnitude of physical hazards on-site. Personal awareness, strict adherer-e to safety requirements, use of the buddy system and break will be mandatory to reduce the potential for accidents and ',,juries to personnel. _. _..
