TOLUENE <br /> CAS NO 108-88-3 DOT NO 1294 <br /> OSHA PEL 50 ppm UEL 1% <br /> 1 <br /> ACGIH TLV 50 ppm LEL 1 1% <br /> OSHA STEL 300 ppm VP 21 mm <br /> NIOSH IDLH 500 ppm <br /> POTENTIAL DANGERS <br /> Local harmful effects of toluene include irritation of the eyes, respiratory tract and skin Repeated or <br /> prolonged contact with toluene may cause removal of natural lipids from the skin, resulting in dry, <br /> fissured dermatitis Toluene splashed in the eyes may cause irritation and reversible damage <br /> Systemic effects of acute exposure to toluene predominantly may result in central nervous system <br /> depression Symptoms and signs include headache, dizziness, fatigue, muscular weakness, <br /> drowsiness, skin paresthesia and coma <br /> Points of attack are the central nervous system, liver, kidneys and skin <br /> MROUTES OF ENTRY <br /> Inhalation of vapor, percutaneous dermal absorption, ingestion, skin and eye contact <br /> FIRST AID <br /> If toluene gets into the eyes, immediately flush with water for 15 minutes If toluene contacts the skin, <br /> promptly wash with soap and water If a person breathes in large amounts of toluene, move the <br /> exposed person to fresh air at once and perform artificial respiration, if needed When toluene has <br /> been swallowed, get medical attention DO NOT induce vomiting, aspiration may cause chemical <br /> pneumonia <br /> W <br />
