Corrective Action Plan
Montgomery Ward Auto Service Center, Stockton, CA
the recovery of contaminants This will complete the startup and optimization of the
Isystem
Air Sparj!ing S stem
' Air sparging will not be started until the vapor extraction system has operated for a few
months and vapor concentrations have settled to a steady level or a steady declining rate
The reason for this is to be able to observe the effects of air sparging on vapor
concentrations and to be able to track such changes
Once the vapor extraction system reaches the desired level, a one to two day air sparging
' system startup will be performed During this startup, EAI will perform the following
tasks
■ Measure ground water level at the selected air sparging well and adjacent
' monitoring wells
■ Obtain and analyze ground water samples from the selected air sparging well and
adjacent monitoring wells
■ Measure dissolved oxygen levels
■ Start air sparging
■ Measure water levels and dissolved oxygen periodically for several hours
■ Pulse the air injection using a timer so that the injection is turned on for a period of
one to two hours and followed by a period of one to two hours of no sparging
■ Initially, air sparging will be implemented by injecting approximately 5 scfm of
pressurized air in each air sparging well EAI will then test the influence of this
injection rate and may increase the injection rate up to a maximum of 20 scfrn
8.5 Operation and Maintenance
Field Procedures and Measurements
Following optimization, the soil vapor extraction system will be run continuously (24-
hours a day, seven days a week), if conditions permit it During this time, the following
tasks will be performed on a weekly basis
C Check the SVES unit to ensure that the system is up and running as scheduled with
no maintenance requirements These weekly checks will include inspection of the
knockout pot, checks of all warning lights, temperature in combustion chamber and
' electric combustion
■ Check the air sparging unit to ensure that the system is properly operating
■ Measure flow rates and pressures recorded at the sparging unit
Measure inlet and exhaust yv,apor concentrations using a PID or an FID
■ `>djust dilution air LTJ lllL XiMi4e removal rates
In addition, the following tasks will be performed on a monthly basis
' ■ Change or adjust wells used as active extraction wells in order to maximize
recovery of contammanLs
■ Obtain and analyze inlet and exhaust vapor samples by laboratory analyses
■ Measure water levels in ground water for wells surrounding air sparging wells
Project No 1232 - 27 -
SAB WORD 1232CAP
