' PROVINCIAL SETTING:
According to the California Geological Survey, the subject property is located within the
Great Valley geomorphic provinces. The Great Valley, originally a a trough in which
sediments have been deposited almost continuously since the Jurassic(about 160 million
years ago),is now an alluvial plain about 50 miles wide and 400 miles long. Its northern
part is the Sacramento Valley, drained by the Sacramento River. It is in this valley that
the subject property is located. Its southern part is the San Joaquin Valley drained by the
San Joaquin River. Great oil fields have been found in southernmost San Joaquin Valley
and along anticlinal uplifts on its southwestern margin. In the Sacramento Valley, the
Sutter Buttes, the remnants of an isolated Pliocene volcano, rise above the valley floor.
' SOILS:
The"Soil Survey of San Joaquin County,Califon-da"'describes the soils underlying the
t subject property as the "Tokay-Urban land complex'. According to the NRCS
descriptions, this complex is comprised of 50% Tokay fine sandy loam, and 35% urban
land. The remaining 15% are comprised of small areas of Columbia, Devries,Tujunga,
' and Acampo soils that have been altered and intermixed by construction activities.
Urban land is described as"areas covered by roads, driveways, sidewalks, parking lots,
buildings, and other structures"! Tokay soils are described as "sandy loam" and are
relatively deep and well drained, having formed mainly from granitic rock sources.
Permeabilty is noted in the soil survey as moderately rapid.
' GROUNDWATER:
Data from the California Department of Water Resources'indicates that groundwater is
at a depth of about 50 feet below the ground surface in the vicinity of the subject property.
The groundwater gradient is toward the southwest, away from the Mokelumne River.
s California Geological Survey,2002.California Geomorphic Provinces-CGS Note 36.
'Soil Survey of San Joaquin County,Cahfomia,United States Department of Agriculture,Natural
Resources Conservation Service(undated)
' 7 Soil Survey of San Joaquin County,California,United States Department of Agriculture,Natural
Resources Conservation Service(undated),pp 129
' lhttp://well.water.ca.gov/gw/gw_data/hyd/Rpt_Hist_Data5—gw.wellNumber 03N07E06Q004M
' RNC Environmental,LLC • 9746 Parktree Way,Elk Grove,CA 95624 • 916.714.3073 • fax 916.290.0106
