One USGS well is used to
sample treated surface water at the Stockton East Plant, the other wells sample groundwater. Of
the six wells listed, only one well indicated one depth to water reading. The depth to water
recorded on February 13, 1966 was recorded to be 7 feet. Locally, depth to groundwater is
approximately 15 feet below grade, and groundwater flows southwest.
Geologically, the property is underlain by alluvial deposits of Quaternary Age, which in turn
overlie sedimentary rocks of Cretaceous to Tertiary age deposited upon crystalline basement
rocks.
4.0 SITE HISTORY
A standard Phase I Environmental Site Assessment prepared by WGR Southwest for the
subject property indicated that fertilizers, petroleum hydrocarbons, PCB-containing
transformers and various hazardous wastes are currently, or have been historically, present on
limited parts of the property. Based on the identification of these recognized environmental
conditions it is possible that historical activities have impacted the soil beneath the site.
5.0 PROPOSED FIELD ACTIVITIES
The site assessment will include advancing shallow soil borings at 8 locations within the
proposed lease area(see Figure 2). The scope is as follows:
WGR will advance two soil borings (B1 and 132) along the boundary of the lease area on the
north side of Building 312. These borings will extend to 3 feet below ground surface (bgs), and
one sample will be collected at 3 ft bgs from each boring
WGR will advance six soil borings within Parcel 27. One boring(B3) will be placed in the area
of the USG conveyor supports. One boring (B4) will be placed in the proposed location of the
diesel underground tank that Yara intends to install. One boring (135) will be placed in the
central area near the proposed location of several conveyor belts. One boring (B6) will be
placed near Building 212B, where hazardous waste was historically temporarily stored, and also
near the proposed location of the end of one conveyor belt. One boring (137) will be placed near
773. PRIM Page 3 September 4, 2007
