\uVGIPI
Southwest, link.
constructed by the Navy in 1945. The Navy owned Parcels 27, 56 and 64 until 2000 when the
property was conveyed to the Port of Stockton. Currently, the east section of Building 312 is
leased by a company that handles bulk iodine, and all of Building 213 is leased by a company
that handles bagged fertilizers and boric acid.
The location of the site is shown in Figure 1. A site plan is shown in Figure 2.
3.0 GEOLOGY/ HYDROGEOLOGY
The subject site is an approximately 12-acre group of parcels located on the northeast area of
Rough and Ready Island in the Port of Stockton's West Complex. The Port is located on the
delta of the San Joaquin River near the center of the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of
California between the Sierra Nevada Province on the east and the Coast Ranges Province on
the west. Approximately 30 miles west of the site, the San Joaquin River joins the Sacramento
River and empties into the Suisun Bay. Continuing westward, waters of the Suisun Bay pass
through the Carquinez Straight and into San Pablo Bay north of San Francisco Bay.
Rough and Ready Island is surrounded by waters of the San Joaquin River. To the north-
northeast, the Stockton Deep Water Channel passes within about 300-feet of site, extending in
a northwest-southeast direction. The Burns Cutoff of the San Joaquin River encircles the
northwest, west, south and southeast sides of Rough and Ready Island, passing within 1 mile
of the subject property. The confluence of the San Joaquin and Calaveras Rivers is located
approximately 1.5 miles north of the site, near the northern tip of Rough and Ready Island.
There are large sewage disposal ponds located approximately 1.5 miles south-southwest of the
site.
The San Joaquin River passes about 1 mile southwest of the site. The Stockton Deep Water
Channel lies about 0.25 mile north of site. Groundwater flow direction in the area is variable
due to influences produced by the proximity of the deep water channel on the north and the San
Joaquin River on the west and southwest.
There are six water wells within a mile of the subject property. No wells are within 0.5-mile of
773. PRIM Page 2 September 4, 2007
