EPA Method 601/602 will
detect a long list of chemicals, including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene, which are the
most hazardous components of gasoline. Samples were also collected for analysis of Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline and diesel. These analyses provide an overall idea of
how much gasoline or diesel may be present.
Our in-house laboratory conducted the 601/602 analyses and a TPHg scan on 2 September 1993.
The laboratory analysis sheets are attached to this letter. As you can see from the lab sheets, none
of the tested constituents were detected and the detection limits were within acceptable ranges.
Although a more in-depth analysis of TPHg and TPHd should be done by our contract laboratory
(our detectors are not capable of the work), we do not believe it is necessary to analyze additional
samples for TPHg and TPHd.
The domestic supply well appears to be uncontaminated with petroleum hydrocarbon at this time.
As we discussed at our site meeting, on 27 August 1993, we look forward to receiving a report
describing your investigation of the site.
If you have any questions, call me at (916) 255-3125.
ELI HA.
