One
of the hazardous waste storage areas Building 605 is 40 feet by 50 feet
with 10 individual cells separating incompatible and reactive wastes .
Building 530 is 25 feet by 25 feet with no individual cells because the
waste stored in this area is either solid compatible waste or empty
containers. The design and construction of the storage facilities comply
with applicable state and federal standards and the have been certified for
their intended uses by an engineer registered in California.
The following types of waste are stored in Building 605: sulfuric acid,
phosphoric acid, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, trichloroethylene., chlordane ,
polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) , mercury, vanadium, lead, used oils ,
phenol, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl alcohol, toluene, cyclohezylamine,
dimethyl formamide, acetonitrile, avitrol, and warfarin. The majority of wastes in both
buildings are stored in 55-gallon drums. In Building 605 there is a small
amount of waste stored in containers less than 55-gallons. The storage
capacity of Building 605 is 281 drums (15,455 gallons) , while Building 530
has a capacity of 100 55-gallon drums (5,500 gallons) .
1
