C-SHADRI FS 91.6/G W PL 7
01/22/92
Potential ecological receptors in and around SHARPE include terrestrial
vegetation, soil invertebrates, small mammals, birds, reptiles, and aquatic plants,
invertebrates, and vertebrates associated with the drainage ditches. Detailed
description of the risks to these receptors is included in the soils Risk Assessment,
which is in preparation. Analysis of risks and threats to nonhuman receptors
indicated that exposure pathways from groundwater were not complete.
Although the offsite, downgradient potable drinking water wells are not
contaminated at this time and a monitoring program is in place, these wells are
likely to become contaminated in the future. Therefore, it is imperative to have
a treatment system in place.
(How the Remedy is Selected, taken from samples provided by EPA, will appear
here)
CLEANUP ALTERNATIVES WILL PROTECT PUBLIC HEALTH
This cleanup alternative for groundwater at SHARPE will reduce any health risks
posed by the site contaminants to "acceptable" levels. EPA considers an
acceptable risk range to be between one in 10,000 and one in 1,000,000 excess
cancers. Once the groundwater cleanup is complete, a person's risk of
developing cancer as a result of exposure to groundwater would fall within or be
lower than that range. With the exception of the no-action alternative, all
alternatives will reduce risks to acceptable levels.
SUMMARY OF ALTERNATIVES
The groundwater FS for SHARPE was presented to EPA in November 1991.
SHARPE, USATHAMA, CVRWQCB, DTSC, and EPA have evaluated five treatment
8
