C-SHADRIFS91.6/G WPP.16 <br /> 01/22/92 <br /> a hazardous substance, pollutant, contaminant, remedial action, location, or <br /> other circumstance at a CERCLA site, address problems or situations sufficiently <br /> similar to those encountered at the CERCLA site that their use is well suited to <br /> the particular site. <br /> Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act <br /> (CERCLA)--A Federal law passed in 1980 and modified in 1986 by the Superfund <br /> Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA). The Act created a trust fund, <br /> known as Superfund, to investigate and clean up abandoned or uncontrolled <br /> hazardous waste sites. The Act requires the Defense Logistics Agency to reach <br /> agreement with EPA for remedial action at SHARPE and to perform the remedial <br /> action. <br /> Cleanup Level--Compliance standards for groundwater treatment including risk- <br /> based action levels and applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements. <br /> Groundwater--Water found beneath the earth's surface that fills pores between <br /> soil and gravel particles to the point of saturation. Groundwater often flows <br /> more slowly than surface water. Groundwater is the source of 80 percent of the <br /> United States' water supply. <br /> Information Repository--A library or other location where documents and data <br /> related to a Superfund project are placed to allow the public access to the <br /> material. <br /> Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL)--The maximum level at which a particular <br /> chemical is allowed to exist in public water supplies.
