r
2. Tanks -- describe operational procedures to ensure that:
• This section is not applicable because hazardous wastes are currently not
stored in tanks at the Sharpe facility. If tank storage is considered in the
future, the Department of Health Services will be notified and the Operations
Plan will be amended.
D. Facility Inspection
This is the final area investigated under operational procedures and
details the processes contained in the facility inspection.
1. Describe the general inspection checklist and schedule including
(i.e. , include a copy) :
Table VIII-2 shows a copy of the general inspection checklist.
This section describes the general inspection checklist and the frequency
of use. The section is divided into three areas: equipment to be inspected,
types of problems to be inspected for, and the inspection schedule based on
probability of environmental impact. A copy of the Sharpe facility
inspection checklist is shown in Figure VII-2.
a. Equipment to be inspected:
Sharpe has prepared a safety and emergency equipment inspection log (see
• VII-2) . The inspection log includes reviewing the condition of monitoring
equipment, safety equipment, emergency response equipment, security devices,
structural equipment, and operating equipment.
b. Problems to be inspected for:
During inspections, Sharpe staff members evaluate the condition of
equipment as well as whether it is at the site and make appropriate notes on
the logs. The structural integrity of each storage building is also
investigated along with equipment. This evaluation considered fractures in
any of the berms separating wastes storage area, and wall and ceiling
condition to prevent transport of waste precipitation or wind.
c. Frequency of inspection:
Each hazardous waste storage building is inspected at least weekly to
identify the deterioration of any of the containers and the condition of all
safety and operational equipment. Areas which require additional attention
to maintain human and environmental safety may be inspected as often as
daily. For example, loading and unloading areas are inspected daily.
VIII-19
•
