6.0 SPILL COUNTERMEASURES
6.1 Spill Discovery and Response Procedures
Due to the 24 hour a day facility operations; constant grounds oversight; close
proximity of the ASTs and generators to operations; and the consistent/routine use
of the ASTs and generators by truck drivers and fill trucks, a spill or leak is
expected to be promptly discovered. Plant Operations staff are notified
immediately upon discovery of small leaks and work orders are submitted to fix
the leak. Leaks will be documented using the Spill Report form and Guidelines in
Appendix A and reported immediately to the Hazardous Materials Specialist.
Plant Operations communicates to the Hazardous Materials Specialist repair
completion details and mitigation measures taken using the spill control supplies
on Table 4-2 to minimize the leak during repair.
Spills that exceed the trained maintenance personnel capabilities shall be directed
to the Hazardous Materials Specialist who will immediately notify an emergency
response team and employ the use of facility owned heavy equipment to build
berms, dikes, and dams if needed. Communications used will be telephone and
mobile phones. Facility emergency response equipment and communications
systems are inspected regularly to provide an expeditious response during the case
of an emergency.
8411599 Page 14
i
