that once housed stored diesel can offer insight into the suspected upper zone of
contamination.
It is proposed that sampling using a backhoe or excavator with an achievable depth
of 12 to 20 FT proceed as soon as possible. This proposed two day activity will be
accomplished during clear weather in the accessible ( surface treated) yard area.
Samples will be collected in 100-250 ml glass jars with Teflon seals, labeled and
transferred to Sequoia Analytical Laboratory for TPHd;ese, analysis. Soil classification
and lithology determination to the excavation depth limit will be performed under
the direct supervision of a California registered Civil Engineer or Geologist as
necessary. Excavated soil will be either returned to the excavation pit, or
stockpiled nearby, and covered pending laboratory analysis. Upon profiling
excavated soil it may be either retained for remediation or disposed off site at a
suitable landfill. The test hole will be back filled with clean soil with field
compaction to approximately 80% to within 2 FT of the surface. Remaining fill to
grade will be compacted to 90% Proctor relative density.
A Photo Ionization Device (PID) will be used during the process to examine
headspace in a "baggie" to make a rough determination of degree of contamination
and possible hazardous levels of hydrocarbons in the soil .
I will notify you at time of sampling and appreciate your oversight. I understand that
for the shallow excavation pits no drilling permit is required, nor field observation of
backfilling as in the case of test wells.
Please contact me at (530) 823-2156 if you have any questions or recommendations
to the proposed work plan contained in this addendum.
Sincerely,
Daniel K.
