Mr Daniel K Barber,P E
' September 9, 2003
' by several homes (separating it from the highway 99 North frontage road)—is '/4 mile south of
Woodbridge Road in Acampo, San Joaquin County, California Figure 1 is a generalized site
' location map
' PREVIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES
The following summarizes previous environmental remediation and site characterization
' activities A detailed discussion of the magnitude and extent of residual soil and groundwater
contamination is presented in a subsequent section of this report Appendix A contains the
tabulation of analytical results provided to SES
' The site formerly utilized the following five underground storage tanks (USTs), all located in
the northeastern corner of the property
' ■ Two 20,000-gallon Iiquid "cutback" asphalt
' ■ One 2,000-gallon diesel fuel
0 One 1,000-gallon gasoline
10 ■ One 500-gallon gasoline
The five USTs were removed in October 1987 The approximate locations of the USTs and
' associated excavations are shown on Figure 2, Site Plan While SES was not able to review
any documentation reports that may have been completed following the UST removals, we
' understand that according to the regulators, the area of former diesel and gasoline USTs to
the south of the subject property near the domestic well has no contamination of concern The
domestic well was also sampled and showed no total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH)
' contamination (Wong, 2003)
' Soil contamination by hydrocarbons was observed at the location of 20,000-gallon liquid
asphalt tanks in the northeastern area of the property Liquid asphalt is a long-chain
hydrocarbon that likely has a similar signature as diesel fuel The reports by Gallardo &
' Associates (1999) referenced "contamination" detected in the soil excavation confirmation
soil samples, specifically within the "tank cavity" of the two 20,000-gallon USTs, however,
' no additional documentation is available regarding the UST removals (e g , laboratory data of
confirmation samples or a technical report)
' In response to a request from the lead regulatory agency San Joaquin County Environmental
• Health Division (SJCEHD), a workplan for a preliminary site assessment was submitted
(Gallardo & Associates, 1998) and implemented in March 1999 (Gallardo & Associates,
Stellar Environmental Solutions
' Z—'ECIS.]-]--RvrN1 I—DKFArAc Sad.CWavaRc W k guWRT-8sPc atm_
