1
Mr Daniel K Barber, P E
Joe
September 9, 2003
' 1999) Five exploratory boreholes (13-1 through B-5) were advanced to a maximum depth of
40 feet A total of 20 soil samples and 1 "grab" groundwater sample were analyzed for
t gasoline-, kerosene- and diesel-range hydrocarbons and the associated aromatic
hydrocarbons—benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) and methyl tertiary-butyl
ether (MTBE) Site chemicals of concern are discussed in detail in a subsequent section of
' this report Elevated concentrations of volatile- and extractable-range petroleum
hydrocarbons and BTEX were detected in both soil and groundwater
Additional site characterization was conducted between December 2000 and January 2001 to
further define the magnitude and extent of site contamination (D K Barber & Associates,
2002b) Six exploratory boreholes were advanced to a maximum depth of 60 feet, and one
groundwater monitoring well (MW-1) was installed, developed, and sampled Soil samples
' (from approximately 5-foot-depth intervals) were collected for laboratory analysis between
depths of 14 and 60 feet
tIn June 2002, an additional five groundwater monitoring wells were installed (MW-2 through
MW-6) and one additional exploratory borehole (D-3) was advanced and sampled A total of
• 32 soil samples were collected for laboratory analysis from depths between 10 and 55 feet
t (D K Barber& Associates, 2002b)
' A total of nine groundwater monitoring/sampling events have been conducted in available site
wells between December 2000 and June 2003
' A search for potential vicinity water supply wells was conducted in 2003 at the request of the
regulator This survey was updated for the project site using a previously-conducted (1990)
' water well survey for a nearby site (Harding Lawson Associates, 1990)
SITE LITHOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY
' Borehole geologic logs for a number of the exploratory bores provide a general indication of
the subsurface conditions and the migrational routes Additional descriptive text of site
tlithologic conditions was available from one additional site subsurface investigation (Gallardo
& Associates, 1999) A total of six boreholes have been advanced and geologically logged, to
' a maximum depth of 22 feet below grade in 1999 Following the 1999 investigation,
numerous exploratory bores to depths of 60 feet and six monitoring wells were installed by
D K Barber& Associates between 2000 and 2002
Stellar Environmental Solutions
' E PROIECTSuoo3 nun Aal«tl100JbDKIivG ludi LbaviR P°n end FlW'°iBFPORT-sepo®6n asom ds
