containment area between MW's No 1 and No 6 in November 2004 revealed
ground contamination levels upwards to 11,000 ppm of diesel (C10-C28) and
14,000 ppm of motor oil (C16-C36) type extractable hydrocarbons Continual
access to this area is important to WOS for material handling at the Acampo
facility
' Offsite Groundwater Quality
' Sampling of groundwater in the adjacent parcel wrapping around the site on both the
north and east sides has been accomplished using hydropunch collection on three
occasions Holes were bored in an arc pattern stepping further out from the suspected
source in an effort to find the "leading edge" or "non-detect limits of the presumed
advancing plume While detected levels of diesel were generally less than 0 10 mg/ltr
and expected to decrease with distance from the source there were higher levels
detected beyond the earlier apparent plume boundary The results of testing are
presented graphically in ATTACHMENT 10, "SITE DRAWING"
Down gradient and potential receptor wells
' A survey of all recorded wells, both domestic and agriculture, in the surrounding 2,000
Ft was conducted in September 2003 California State Department of Water
' Resources (DWR) records were reviewed and tabulated Casual field verification of
well locations was accomplished but home owners were not queried about details of
pump installation, quality of water nor their wells tested
With the last round of hydropunch sampling and the remaining lack of definition of the
plume's leading edge or non-detect point it is conceivable that traces of diesel may
' extend to the proximity of several domestic wells along the south side of Woobndge
Road Sampled levels are less than 100 ppb or 0 100 mg/Itr several hundred feet
distance from potential receptors at a depth of 50-60 FT below ground surface The
pollutant of concern is diesel with a very low potential for dissolution into ground water
DWR records indicate that working down gradient wells are cased down over 300 FT
Most, if not all potentially affected wells were new replacement wells constructed in
the 1980's specifically to lower depths to preclude infiltration of shallow ground water
contaminated with brine from the Victor Fine Foods facility The level of protection
afforded to protect from brine intrusion would afford similar if not greater protection for
' the well users from the WOS site's release of diesel
Offsite well information is provided in ATTACHMENT 10,"OFFSITE WELL SURVEY"
1
5
1
