' On December 10, 1998 Gallardo & Associates, Windsor, CA (Gallardo) was retained by
the owner's representative Jeff Hopkins, to plan and perform a limited sod and
groundwater investigation Field work was performed March 23 and 24, 1999 by
Gallardo, as proposed and accepted by San Joaquin County Public Health Services,
Environmental Health Division (PHSIEHD) A report summarizing findings was forwarded
to Jeff Hopkins on May 24, 1999 by Rafael L Gallardo
The investigative work through November 2000 by others has included identifying
petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in the locations of the four aforementioned asphalt
icutback and fuel containing USTs, removed in 1987, some definition of lateral extent of
contamination, identification of hydrocarbon contaminants (note no MTBE or fuel
' Oxygenates DIPS, ETBE nor TA was detected), locating a "shallow water body", and a
request by Rafael L Gallardo Registered Geologist, that PHSIEHD consider granting site
closure
Additional characterization of the pollution extent and its impact on groundwater was
conducted by D K Barber P E and Associates from October 2000 through the present
Bonngs were Initiated on November 13, 2000 Groundwater was not encountered until
about 50 FT below ground surface (bgs) after very slow boring progress and operational
problems The depth and sod material showed the direct push technology (DPT) ng to be
too light duty and efforts were suspended awaiting clear weather and availability of a
heavier DPT ng Boring resumed December 4, 2000 Equipment problems again resulted
in suspension of site work until December 13 and 15, 2000 and January 4, 2001 activities
Soil samples were collected at five FT intervals to groundwater approximately 52 FT bgs
Sod samples were field classified using either a geologist or registered civil engineer Grab
water samples were collected in boreholes and the constructed monitoring well
Stellar Environmental Solutions, of Berkeley, CA , a Geoscience & Consulting firm,
assisted with field classification, sample collection and graphical presentation The firm's
' registered Geologist and a second senior geologist were on the site during several
different days, establishing its overall lithology, leading to graphical boring logs and brief
summary of findings
