• EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Upgradient Environmental Consultants performed quarterly monitoring activities at the Gillies
Trucking Yard on November 21, 1997 Samples were collected from all six monitoring wells and
from the Gillies drinking water well, and were analyzed for TPH-gasoline, TPH-diesel, and BTEX
Three samples were also analyzed for gasoline oxygenates using EPA method 8260
A Solinst water level meter was used to measure the depth to groundwater in each well The depth
averaged 62 5 feet below grade, which is above the screened interval in three of the wells Using
well casing elevation data,a westward groundwater flow direction along a burred stream channel
axis was determined
A Grundfos submersible pump was used to purge five of the six monitoring wells The sixth well
was hand bailed because the pump tends to hang up in this well Six to eight gallons of standing
water were removed from the three shallow wells, while 20 to 25 gallons were removed from the
deeper wells in order to obtain more representative samples from these over-screen wells
Conductivity,pH, and temperature were measured during purging, which was discontinued when
these parameters stabilized The purge water is stored in two 55-gallon drums on site
Diesel was detected at moderate to low concentrations in four of the seven samples, but no
gasoline, BTEX, or oxygenate compounds were detected in any of the wells The results are similar
to those in the last monitoring event, which took place one year ago Due to the fact that the water
. table is above the screen in three wells and no clear trends have emerged in the other wells,
Upgradient recommends that monitoring take place on a quarterly basis through 1998 in order to
better define contamination patterns
• 1
