and demolition. NES recommends that the following items should be removed
and disposed of by a hazardous waster contractor:
• Kitchen stove, stove hood, exhaust duct, cabinets, countertops, and sink;
• Vinyl flooring in the kitchen and laundry/utility room;
• Heating unit in laundry/utility room and all associated ductwork within the
house;
• The wall air conditioning unit in the dining room;
• Sheetrock walls and ceilings within the kitchen, laundry/utility room, living
room, dining room and hallway;
♦ Appropriate waste classification to be determined by the hazardous waste
contractor in cooperation with the waste disposal facility. It should be noted that it
is rare that demolition materials must be disposed of as hazardous waste. Many
Class II and Class III landfills can receive these materials under the terms of their
permits. All
contaminated materials should be rendered unusable prior to disposal.
♦ The following surfaces/locations/items should be thoroughly cleaned with a non-
phosphate cleaner and triple-rinsed. The effluent may require disposal as a
regulated hazardous waste. Any and/or all contaminated materials and/or surfaces
may be removed and demolished if the value of the materials do not warrant
cleaning and re-sampling.
• All remaining Sheetrock surfaces within the residence, with the exception
of the remaining acoustic ceiling;
• All surfaces within the two bathrooms, including walls and floors;
• Once cleaned, the aforementioned surfaces should be painted with an oil-
based paint.
• The sprayed-on acoustic ceilings in the bedrooms should be treated with a
sealant or oil-based paint.
♦ The septic tank servicing the property should be pumped due to the
methamphetamine contamination present within the water.
