1
' Soil vapor extraction and air sparging system•
i
A soil vapor extraction/air sparging (SVE/AS) system operated from 1994 to 1996 and recovered
petroleum hydrocarbon vapors from wells MW2, MW3, MWS, MW6, V1, V2, and V4 in
conjunction with air sparging wells SWI and SW2 A total of approximately 14,500 pounds of
' petroleum hydrocarbons was removed from the vadose zone by the SVE/AS system The SVE
influent concentration and the cumulative estimated pounds of TPH-g removed became asymptotic
over time
' Perozone Infection System and Soil Vapor Extraction,
' An oxidation pilot test using ozone and hydrogen peroxide(perozone)began in October 2005 and is
ongoing During the reporting period, ozone and hydrogen peroxide were injected into the saturated
soils using injection wells 1PIA, EMB, 22A, IP2B, IBA, and IMB periodically To monitor the
injection system, dissolved oxygen concentrations, pH, ORP, temperature, and pressure influence
were measured from various observation wells located onsite Groundwater samples from injection
' and observation wells were also analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons and water quality parameters
As some hydrocarbons may be volatilized due to the perozone injection during the field study, the
existing SVE system is being used to abate hydrocarbons and/or ozone in the vadose zone During
the reporting period soil vapors were extracted from wells MW2,MW3,MWS,MW6,V1,V2, and
V4 Soil vapors were extracted using a regenerative blower, and treated with two 2,000-pound
• activated carbon vessels in series Weekly momtoring of the SVE system was conducted during the
reporting period The SVE influent soil vapor samples were analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons
The results of the pilot study, inclusive of operational parameters for both the injection system and
SVE system, as well as groundwater analysis for hydrocarbons and groundwater parameters, will be
submitted under separate cover
t
1
1
' G 1Pro)ects1739425PUBLT000_k)&<Qua aly Progress Rq*n\200543942 Q I205_system doe 4
