(11/81)
II BACKGROUND
* Identify current and historical site information and data which might have a
bearing on the proposed sampling and data collection effort. Describe the
site hydrogeology, when applicable. Include unusual analytical parameters
and special methods from past site work. Summarize the significant analytical
results from previous sampling events.
* The updated Preliminary Assessment is only required for initial Site
Inspection Sampling Plans.
III MAPS
* All pertinent locations should be identified.
* Highlight sampling points, }mown & potential contamination sources, directions
of groundwater flow, and all other significant information on the maps.
IV RATIONALE FOR SAMPLE LOCATIONSâ–ş NUh' ERS OF SAMPLES, & ANALYTICAL PARAMETEPS
* This section covers the what, where and why of the sampling plan.
* Identify the specific sampling points and analytical parameters.
* Discuss the rationale behind the sample point selection process and whether
it is based on a random, judgemental, or systematic approach, or a canbination
of these. Are sane s anpling points (e.g. , wells) left out? If so, explain
why. What is not being sampled?
* Discuss the rationale behind the analytical parameters being selected.
Explain why some samples may be analyzed for one suite of analytical parameters
and other samples for different parameter suites. Identify the site indicator
canpounds and other parameters of most significant interest. If low (non-routine)
detection limits are required, identify the action levels of concern.
V REQUEST FOR ANALYSES (Tabular and Narrative)
* This section provides the details necessary for obtaining analytical services
through EPA's Contract Lab Program (CLP) and/or from a non-CLP laboratory.
* CLP analyses will be either Routine Analytical Services (RAS) , or Special
Analytical Services (SAS) , or a combination of these two analytical services
(RAS+SAS) .
* Under the RAS program four types of analyses are provided for soil and/or
water matrices: volatiles, semivolatiles, pesticides/PCBs, metals and
cyanide. The ccmpounas included in the RAS analyses are the CLP Target
Conpound List (TCL) . Appendix B lists all of the compounds on the TCL by
type of analysis, and includes the contract required quantitation limits
(CRQLs) . The Hazardous Substance List (HSL) and Priority Pollutant List
(PPL) are NOT identical ccmpounds lists to the TCL.
