VI FIELD MErMDS AND PROCEDURES
* If the explicit details are included in the QAPjP then the Sample Plan should
identify the methods or procedure to be followed and cite the sections and
pages in the QAPjP which have the details. If the procedures are not in the
QAPjP they must be included in the Sample Plan. In either case the Sample
Plan should include enough detail to guide the individuals actually doing
the field work and scheduling the analytical laboratory space.
A. Sample Collection
* Describe in detail the sampling procedures and techniques to be followed.
* Include field methods and procedures Such as well bailing, drilling of auger
holes, sample collection, and campositing of samples.
e.g. Volatiles in water: The vial is checked for zero head space.
Dissolved Metals in water: Samples are filtered in the field ( Indicate
the source of the vacuum) and preserved with nitric acid to pH <2
(Indicate the quality of nitric acid used) .
Subsurface soils: The top and bottom of each brass sleeve will be
marked in the field (Discuss how the sleeves will be sealed) .
Well Installation: Explain the placement scheme for the wells.
Discuss the construction of the wells. Discuss the depth of well
and length and placement of screened intervals. Hoa will the wells
be developed?
* c+bere possible, identify those sampling points which will be the source of
replicate samples.
* Check to make sure that appropriate rnmbers of blanks (background) , replicates
and lab QC samples are included for each sample matrix.
B. Disposal of Contaminated Materials
* Identify how contaminated cuttings and well development and well purge water
will be collected.
* Drummed cuttings and water should be labeled as to point source to insure
appropriate disposal.
* Discuss the disposal of contaminated materials and disposable equipment.
- 5 -
