AGE-NC-07-1517
17 March 2008
The area of soil excavation and soil samples are depicted on Figure 4.A total of approximately 100
cubic yards were removed during the two excavation events.
2.2.1 Soil Excavation
Soil was excavated by L&B Environmental,Inc.of Stockton,California(L&B Environmental)with
a backhoe.
The northeast excavation areal dimensions were approximately 64 feet in length and 18 feet in width.
The southeast excavation areal dimensions were approximately 28 feet long and 15 feet wide at its
widest point. Based upon laboratory reported lead concentrations of soluble lead within sample
NEWS2 which exceeded hazardous waste criteria, the northeast excavation area was extended
approximately 2 feet further west on 01 February 2007.Hazardous-waste soil from both the northeast
and southwest excavation areas was segregated into a soil stockpile, pending appropriate disposal
at a Class I landfill. The remaining soil was stockpile for disposal at a designated waste landfill
(Class II). All soil stockpiles were placed on plastic and covered with plastic.
2.2.2. Soil Sampling and Analysis
On 06 December 2007,utilizing a metric slide-sampler or by hand-packing,an AGE representative
collected 18 soil samples from the both the northeast and southwest excavation areas and two soil
samples from the segregated soil stockpile under the oversight of EHD. On 07 December 2007, an
AGE representative collected a total of three soil samples from the two stockpiles remaining to be
sampled. These samples were used to determine the appropriate landfills for disposal.
Soil samples NEB 1 through NEB4 were collected at approximately 2 feet bsg from the center of the
floor of the northeast excavation area from approximately 12 linear feet from the north sidewall
(NEB 1)equi-distant apart to approximately 12 linear feet from the south sidewall(NEB4).Samples
NEB 1 and NEB4 were collected at former sampling points AA and BB, respectively.
Soil samples NENS and NESS were collected at approximately one foot bsg from the northeast
excavation area north and south sidewalls, respectively.
Soil samples NEWS 1,NEWS2 and NEWS3 were collected at approximately one foot bsg from the
north, middle and south sections of the west sidewall of the northeast excavation area, respectively.
Soil samples NEES 1,NEES2 and NEES3 were collected at approximately one foot bsg from the east
sidewall north, middle and south sections of the northeast excavation area, respectively.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
